Kelly Clarkson made an emotional return to the American Idol stage last night (Feb. 25). The first winner of the show performed her new tune “Piece By Piece” which brought the crowd, including judge Keith Urban, to tears. Clarkson herself stopped at several points near the end of the song, overcome with emotion.
“I’m pregnant and nostalgic and it’s the last season,” Clarkson told host Ryan Seacrest after her performance. “I’m sorry I just bawled.”

The tune is about a father who abandons his daughter and the daughter who in turn builds a family to whom she refuses to do the same. “It’s touching for me because I wrote it when I was pregnant with my little girl, and now I’m pregnant with my little boy,” Clarkson said, adding, “who I hope comes out soon.”
